EU LAW LECTURER
2010-2023
PROGRAMME DIRECTOR
of the MASTER OF EUROPEAN
LEGAL STUDIES - MELS Online
Work experience
I have specialised in designing and delivering training courses in various areas of European Union law. Most of them relate to a number of policy fields surrounding internal market law, Union citizenship law, European company law, competition law, EU institutional, procedural and general, and horizontal EU law matters.
EIPA Luxembourg, together with the University of Lorraine offers a Master of European Legal Studies - MELS Online. I was its Programme Director for over 10 years i.e. five 2-year-long promotions. Apart from managerial duties and leading the methodological design of blended learning, I lectured in many courses such as the EU Legal system, European Company Law, and various courses related to the internal market and Union citizenship.
I was involved in technical assistance projects in the Western Balkans and Turkey financed by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg. I was a project leader for a series of activities in Kosovo and Turkey and I have contributed to training courses in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
I have delivered training seminars on EU law to various target groups or 'corporate clients' e.g. the European Commission, European Parliament, General Secretariat of the Council, European Court of Auditors, European Investment Bank, Committee of the Regions, European Economic and Social Committee, Single Resolution Board, EUROPOL, and the European Aviation Safety Authority. I have also trained various civil servants of national or regional administrations, diplomats (for instance in the context of preparation for the presidency in the Council of the EU), judges and privately practicing lawyers.
Finally, I was also engaged in conducting applied research in the above-mentioned subject matters. I produce captivating learning materials and mind-bending case studies; I innovate when it comes to the choice of methods of the delivery of training.
COURSE DIRECTOR
2006-2008
FREELANCE PROJECT MANAGER
2009
I was a project manager responsible for organising successful seminars, major conferences, and summer schools - all in the field of European Union law.
I also moderated heated panel discussions, delivered presentations, and gave a handful of lectures as a visiting tutor.
The list below provides an insight into the themes of selected events I organised, from 2006 to 2009:
- The Future of Gambling in the Internal Market of the EU - my first and the biggest conference which gathered well over 100 participants from national gambling regulators, private betting operators, national lotto monopolies, and lawyers trying to crack the code to the compliance matrix with both varying national regulatory schemes (present in the absence of harmonising rules of secondary EU law) and primary EU law of free movement of services and right of establishment.
- Opening-up of the European Energy Markets
- State Aid Fora
- Leniency and Fines – Instruments for Enforcing Competition Law
- The Future of the Internal Market – the Single Market Review and the Lisbon Treaty
- Summer Courses: European Competition Law & European Company Law
While working at ERA, I had a chance to develop my teaching skills. I found out that to deliver a presentation or a workshop to a competent group of participants one must overprepare and gain rock-solid confidence.
I also had a unique chance to deliver a series of lectures at the prestigious (in some circles) MGIMO-University in Moscow providing an overview of European State Aid Policy; Economic theory and analysis in State Aid control; and European rules on State Aid.
